Tips
for searching
for information...
Search
engines are one of the best ways to find
the information you are looking for. Unfortunately
the results are often overwhelming... it is not uncommon
to get thousands of results for any search.
TIP, use a .ca search engine for Canadian
content (eg. google.ca vs. google.com).
Also, most engines provide advanced search features
and search tips to narrow the results. To try a search

Information
Sites: The term information site is an
attempt to describe any site that provides information.
User Beware; any
one can publish (put information) on the Web (this
site included).
Corporate Sites
are usually rich in content and information, these
are especially useful if looking for product specific
information or support... If your shopping however,
be sure to do your own comparisons (i.e. Coke is not
likely to tell you how good Pepsi is).
Goverment Sites
are a great source of information, not just because
the the Governments (Federal, Provincial, Municipal),
have put a lot of effort and information into them,
they are available 24x7 and
have No Line-Ups. Click
on the Goverment
Sites link here to see a small selection
(start) of those available.

Service Providers
(the company that provides you your Internet connection),
are almost always a good source for information, the
Caution is
they are also selling space and or products,
use the same discretion you would when shopping a
store.
Shopping Sites
are becoming more and more popular. Most Retailers
have there own sites and these are generally trustable
because they are backed by the Bricks & Morter
(Physical Location) Store that you could walk into
if necessary.
On-line Shopping Sites
have a lot to offer, virtually anything is available;
comparable to a "Never-ending/Ever-changing
Catalogue" Buyer
Beware, try to validate
that the site is legitimate and that you are comfortable
with the offer before you give any information. TIP,
make sure that the site supports secure communication
when you get to the point of transferring any personal
information (the start of the Web Site Address should
change from "http://" to "https://"
- notice the "s" for secure).
In Summary:
Always validate the source of the information
and if you are not sure "take
with a grain of salt". Most reputable
sites look professional, but always use Caution,
as above, validate the information.
